Welcome to Burt's Food Blog

Hello I'm Burt Fleisher, a Chicago area restaurant lover who travels the USA extensively, and is always seeking out interesting and unique food wherever I may be. This Blog has become my photo-journal, chronicling most of my restaurant and dining experiences with a bit of humor added in to keep it light.

I want to thank you for stopping by and reading, I hope you enjoy my musings and that you'll subscribe to Burt's Food Blog or Like Me on Facebook.

No Degrees Of Separation From Number One

If my eating around Philly has taught me anything about this city, it’s that they make some pretty darn good burgers here. It’s also shown me that I have a favorite style of burger, and that style of burger is exactly the one being served at 500°.

500° has a very straightforward menu consisting of hand mixed milkshakes, french fries that are hand cut and perfect, and of course, burgers… nothing else. I guess you could say they’re one of those places that holds true to Burt’s rule of <10. Make ten or less great menu items, then do those few things consistently and better than anyone else for awhile, and rest assured fame will be sure to follow.

The burgers start with well formed ½ lb. hand packed patties cooked to perfection; a griddle seared crispy outside crust that's flavorful and caramelized around the edges, yet still has a juicy center that releases gently with each bite sending the savory juices running down your arm. The custom made 4½” buns fit the burger patties perfectly, and are just thick enough to keep the whole package together without getting soggy or torturing you with some stupid tear away thick pretzel roll that you can’t ever seem to open your mouth wide enough for, and bite through.

If I was inclined to start a listing of my 10 favorite burger places in the USA, I firmly believe that that 500° would undoubtedly occupy a prominent spot on that list.
