Last week Friday, my wife and I decided to have a late New Years dinner at Stevens' steakhouse in Gurnee, and what a catastrophe!
The service absolutely sucked. Sorry folks, but there is just no other way to say it. We had either the least experienced waiter or just rudest waiter in serving history, can someone really be this ignorant? The rest of staff was ambivalent and inattentive as well, the food was ill prepared, and the cost was astronomical for what we had.
It started with the wine order from a rather limited wine list of California specific wines that didn't arouse any real interest. Then the wine I ordered was was stale & corked, my waiter had to be asked twice to replace the stale glass with a FRESHLY poured glass, but he didn't do it until after my meal arrived at the table 30 mins after I had asked for a fresh poured glass to begin with.
My wife ordered the chefs special: a Fillet Mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. She now describes her meal as the "most unattractive looking plate of food I that have ever been served". I agree, it looked like steak in a mashed potato volcano surrounded by squid ink splatters and burned asparagus.
My cowboy rib-eye was undercooked at the center, when I told the waiter, he simply shrugged his shoulders and then unbelievably asked if I still wanted it go and walked off! Only to return with our $100 dinner tab.
Keep in mind I am a HUGE steakhouse aficionado and frequently dine at many of the best steakhouse in the city, but my strongest recommendation for anyone contemplating this poor excuse for a steakhouse is to STAY AWAY!!
